Solar questions from businesses in Kolkata, Howrah and West Bengal
Straight answers on roof space, commercial models, net metering and maintenance from Envotech Energy's solar EPC team in Alipore, Kolkata.
What does Envotech Energy do?
Envotech Energy Private Limited is a solar EPC and renewable energy company headquartered at 2A Hastings Park Road, Alipore, Kolkata 700027. Through our strategic partnership with Jevanta Renewables (holding 950+ MW of project execution experience), Envotech delivers end-to-end solar solutions, CAPEX/RESCO structuring, and rooftop solar installations across Kolkata, Howrah, and West Bengal.
Where is Envotech Energy located and which areas do you serve?
Envotech Energy's office is at 2A, Hastings Park Road, Alipore, Kolkata 700027. We serve industrial, commercial and institutional customers across Kolkata (including Alipore, Salt Lake, New Town–Rajarhat, Park Circus, Behala and Garden Reach), Howrah (including the Howrah industrial belt, Liluah, Bally, Domjur, Sankrail and Uluberia) and the rest of West Bengal, including Haldia, Durgapur, Asansol, Kharagpur, Kalyani and Siliguri.
How much rooftop space is required for a 100 kW solar plant in West Bengal?
A 100 kW rooftop solar plant in West Bengal typically needs about 8,000 to 10,000 square feet (roughly 750 to 930 square metres) of shadow-free roof area, or about 80 to 100 square feet per kilowatt. Metal-sheet roofs, where modules are mounted close to the roof slope, usually need less space than flat RCC roofs, where rows are tilted and spaced to avoid inter-row shading. Higher-wattage modules reduce the area further. In Kolkata and Howrah, a well-designed 100 kW plant generally produces in the region of 1.2 to 1.4 lakh units (kWh) a year. Envotech confirms the exact capacity, layout and generation estimate through a site survey and shading analysis.
What is the difference between CAPEX and RESCO models for Kolkata industries?
Under the CAPEX model, the factory or business pays for the solar plant upfront, owns it from day one, keeps all the electricity savings and can claim eligible depreciation benefits; payback for commercial and industrial plants in Kolkata is often in the range of 3 to 5 years, depending on the electricity tariff and how much of the solar power is consumed on site. Under the RESCO (Renewable Energy Service Company) model, the developer invests in, owns, operates and maintains the plant on your roof, and you sign a long-term power purchase agreement (typically 15 to 25 years) to buy the solar electricity at a fixed tariff lower than your grid tariff, with no upfront investment. CAPEX maximises lifetime savings; RESCO preserves capital and transfers performance risk to the developer. Envotech Energy structures both, as well as BOOT and customised hybrid models, backed by financial modelling of investment, generation, savings and returns.
What are the WBSEDCL / CESC grid net-metering guidelines in Kolkata and Howrah?
In West Bengal, grid-connected rooftop solar is regulated by the West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission (WBERC) together with the central Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules. Most of Kolkata and Howrah city is supplied by CESC Limited, while the rest of the state, including much of Howrah district, is supplied by WBSEDCL. The usual process is: apply to your distribution licensee (CESC or WBSEDCL) with your consumer details and proposed solar capacity; the licensee checks technical feasibility against your sanctioned load and the local transformer capacity; the plant is installed with approved equipment and protection; it is inspected (HT installations also need electrical inspectorate clearance); and the licensee installs a bi-directional net meter and synchronises the plant with the grid. Eligibility limits, the choice between net metering, net billing or gross metering, and how surplus units are settled are set by WBERC and revised from time to time, so Envotech Energy checks the current rules for your connection category and handles the documentation with CESC or WBSEDCL as part of the project.
Who is Jevanta Renewables and how is it involved in your projects?
Jevanta Renewables is Envotech Energy's strategic EPC partner, with 950+ MW of project execution experience, including utility-scale plants for NTPC, IOCL, BHEL and NEEPCO and commercial and industrial installations from Maharashtra to the UAE and Vietnam. Envotech leads client engagement, feasibility and project structuring in West Bengal, and projects are engineered and executed through Jevanta Renewables' EPC platform.
Is my factory or commercial roof suitable for solar?
Most flat RCC roofs and metal-sheet (industrial shed) roofs in good condition can carry a solar plant. The key checks are shadow-free area, roof orientation and structural strength, remaining roof life, the distance to the electrical panel, and your daytime electricity consumption. Envotech Energy carries out a solar audit and site assessment that covers load profile, roof condition, shading and grid constraints before recommending a system size.
What solar products and solutions does Envotech Energy offer?
Envotech Energy offers MW-scale and rooftop solar power plants, solar audits and system design, robotic solar panel cleaning, solar water heaters, solar water pumping and pump controllers, heat pumps, ACDB and DCDB manufacturing, solar street and trolley lights, solar CCTV, electric fencing, waste-to-energy plants, biowaste-to-biochar machines and pinning stations for ports.
Do you provide operation and maintenance (O&M) after installation?
Yes. Envotech Energy provides operation and maintenance for the life of the asset, including preventive maintenance, module cleaning (including robotic panel cleaning), inverter and electrical checks, remote performance monitoring and ongoing technical assistance, for plants it has built and for existing solar plants in Kolkata, Howrah and across West Bengal.
How do I get started with a solar project?
Contact Envotech Energy on +91-9330341237 or +91-7003132183 or info@envotechenergy.com. We begin with a discovery conversation about your electricity bills, load profile and roof, followed by a preliminary technical and commercial assessment, a recommended commercial model (CAPEX, RESCO, BOOT or customised), detailed engineering, execution and long-term support.
Ready to plan your project?
We look forward to engaging with you and exploring opportunities for collaboration.
