CAPEX and RESCO solar models, structured around your balance sheet
Once feasibility is established, Envotech Energy structures your solar project to suit your finances: CAPEX ownership, a zero-investment RESCO power purchase agreement, BOOT, or a customised hybrid. Every option is backed by financial modelling of investment, generation, savings, operating costs and returns, so the decision is made on numbers.
- CAPEX
- You own the plant
- RESCO
- Zero upfront investment
- BOOT
- Build, own, operate, transfer
- Customised
- Hybrid & phased structures
CAPEX: own the plant outright
You invest in the plant upfront and own it from day one. Every unit the plant generates replaces a unit you would have bought from the grid, so you capture the full lifetime savings and can claim eligible depreciation benefits. For commercial and industrial consumers, payback is often in the range of 3 to 5 years, depending on tariff and on-site utilisation.
- Highest lifetime savings
- Asset on your balance sheet
- Eligible depreciation benefits
RESCO: solar with no capital outlay
Under the RESCO (Renewable Energy Service Company) model, the developer invests in, installs, owns and maintains the plant on your premises. You sign a long-term power purchase agreement, typically 15 to 25 years, and pay a fixed per-unit tariff that is lower than your grid tariff, only for the solar units you consume.
- No upfront investment
- Savings from the first bill
- Developer carries performance and O&M risk
BOOT and customised models
BOOT (build, own, operate, transfer) combines a RESCO-style start with ownership transfer to you after an agreed period. For larger or multi-site portfolios, we also structure phased and hybrid models that balance capital, savings and risk.
Which model is right for you?
Choose CAPEX if you have capital or access to financing and want the highest long-term return. Choose RESCO if you want to preserve capital, keep solar off your balance sheet, or occupy a leased building. We model both side by side for your site before you decide.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between CAPEX and RESCO solar models?
In the CAPEX model the customer pays for and owns the solar plant, keeping all savings and depreciation benefits. In the RESCO model a developer pays for, owns and maintains the plant, and the customer buys the solar electricity at a fixed tariff below the grid tariff under a 15 to 25 year power purchase agreement, with no upfront investment.
What happens at the end of a RESCO agreement?
Depending on the agreement, the plant is typically transferred to the customer at a nominal value, the agreement is extended, or the developer removes the plant. Envotech Energy agrees the end-of-term arrangement upfront as part of structuring the project.
Who maintains the plant under each model?
Under RESCO, the developer is responsible for O&M and generation performance. Under CAPEX, the owner is responsible, and most customers choose an O&M contract with Envotech Energy to keep the plant performing.
